In the heart of the Upper Galilee on the western foothills of Mount Meron, at an altitude of 840 to 890 meters; Yosef Sayada, scion to a family of farmers, planted Lueria Winery’s vineyards, expanding over approximately 180 dunams.
The uniqueness of Yosef’s vineyard is expressed in the soil (or terrior) – a rare combination of basalt, terra rosa and limestone in one plot. The structure of the soil in the vineyard, its high altitude, the drained soil, the unique climate of the region, the irrigation methods using advanced technology, and organic fertilization (home-produced compost) create excellent conditions for growing quality wine grapes.
Yosef Sayada dedicates his full effort every day to extract the best quality from the vineyard. Many local wineries seek-out grapes harvested from Yosef’s vineyard, to complete their high-quality and prestigious wine labels. The quality of the grapes from Yosef’s vineyard is well-known, and every year wines produced from Yosef’s vineyard’s win praise and awards.
Roots in the Upper Galilee: A Unique Terroir
The vineyards of Lueria Winery lovingly tended by Yosef Sayada, are planted in the heart of the Upper Galilee. This area, blessed with a relatively cool mountain climate and well-drained terra rossa soils, offers ideal conditions for growing quality wine grapes. The high altitude, together with the temperature differences between day and night, contribute to the slow and balanced ripening of the grapes, giving them aromatic complexity, and rich concentrated flavors.
Carefully selected wine grape varieties, meticulous attention
Growing in Lueria’s vineyards you will find an assortment of noble grape varieties, carefully selected to suit the unique terroir of the region. From Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Syrah; to unoaked Chardonnay, and fresh Roussanne – each variety is treated with great devotion, while ensuring a healthy vineyard and high crop quality. Yosef Sayada believes in precise work in the vineyard, meticulous pruning, cluster thinning when necessary, and optimal canopy management, to ensure that the grapes arrive to the winery in optimal quality condition.
Philosophy of quality and expression of terroir
For Yosef Sayada, the vineyard is the foundation of fine wine. He sees himself as the “conductor” of nature’s orchestra, and believes that wine should reflect the unique character of the soil and climate in which the grapes were grown. This approach is evident in every bottle of wine produced by Lueria Winery, which authentically expresses the richness of flavors and nuances of the Upper Galilee.
